The Independent Producers International Film Festival- IPIFF 2008 will open this year on the 14th of Julie 2008with a motion picture dedicated to the first film producers from the beginning of the century in Romania (the producers of the film Romania’s Independence made in 1912): Leon Popescu, Grigore Brezeanu, Pascal Vidrascu.

We are , of course, speaking about Nae Caranfil’s film-The rest is silence, which is in the official IPIFF 2008 competition, along with other 7 successful motion pictures.

In 1912, the Romanian director Grigore Brezeanu and the great tycoon Leon Popescu produced a two hour long motion picture together, Romania’s Independence- a motion picture adaptation, as close to reality as possible, of the real Independence War in 1877.

The Rest is Silence tells, relaxed and half fictionalized manner, the history of making this picture.

In The Rest is Silence, young Grig (Marius Florea Vizante)is the son of a star from The National Theater, over a hundred years ago. But his one balance sheet is dissapointing.too short for the stage, too shy with women, too excessive in his life stile, the son is about to commit a capital mistake, the unforgivable sin in the eyes of the father: to direct a motion picture!

Leon( Ovidiu Niculescu), a local landlord touched by messianic delusions and self-proclaimed Patron of the Arts, becomes the financier of the whole deal. He also becomes, in turn, Grig's protector, his teacher, substitute parent, unfair partner and...life long enemy.
