Memory In Stone

Memory In Stone

After 40 years Demian Joseph returns to Rosia Montana in the footsteps of two films: "Stone Wedding" and "Spirit of Gold" ... what's left of the sentimental picture of what happened to those places ... the people … is the film crew still present in their memory? The film can be a requiem for a vanished world, a place that is currently agonizing ... but also for three great artists: Mircea Veroiu, Leopoldina Bălănuţă, Dorin Liviu Zaharia.

Merry Circus (Circul Vesel)

Mina and Carol have been married for 55 years. They were both circus artists. Mina is 75 years-old and Carol is 84 years-old, they have a daughter, two grandchildren and a 4 year-old great-granddaughter. Carol is Toma Zdebschi’s son, one of the first circus owners from Romania. After the communists took control of Romania, the Romanian circuses were taken over by the state. Carol was forced to give away the name of “Globus Circus”, this name being used now by the circus owned by the state. The couple retired in 1992 and currently they live in their house from the Rahova neighborhood, Bucharest. In their front yard we can still see the wagon they travelled across the country with. Every year, on August 29th, family and friends gather to celebrate Carol’s birthday.

My Beautiful Dacia

My Beautiful Dacia is an extravagant and humoristic odyssey from Communism to Capitalism, seen from the perspective of one of Romania's most charismatic symbols, the Dacia automobile. The film follows several Romanians -from rich to poor, from old to young- whose lives are interconnected by this humble car, thus showing the present transformation of Romanian society from past to present. Can this car be the answer to Romania'ssocial changes?

The World According to Ion B.

The film starts in 2008. Ion B is a 62 year-old homeless man living in Bucharest. As a young man, he had dreamed of becoming a film director. In the 70’s he started creating collages that he refers to as “my films”. In 2008, a young gallery owner heard by chance about Ion and his work. The homeless man showed him a collection of old suitcases filled with almost 1000 collages he had made between the 70’s and the 90’s. Only one year later, in 2009, Ion lives in his own home and has become one of the most important contemporary Romanian artists. This is the story of a genuine artist living on the edge of society, creating art in its purest form. For himself.
