"This festival began a bit undecided, it did not find it's Northen Star. But now it found it and I wish all those leading IPIFF to hold on tight and stear ahead with the North Star as their guide "- Manuela Cernat
The official premiere of the movie "About other mothers", the one that closed the 5 th edition of the festival was marked by bad luck. The independent production was recently awarded in Moscow. On the way to IPIFF, the copy the tape was stopped in customs, and the filmmakers were forced to screen a copy of the films at a lower quality.
There is great excitement at the National Theater of Constanta. Some volunteers wearing IPIFF5 shirts great the guest at the entrance. The journalists await around the red carpet. They wait for the beggining of the fifth edition of the festival's award gala .It should start at 19, but there is still a little delay.
Radu Mihaileanu's film was severely dissected by critics,it has been accused by many with the tendency towards melodrama, schematism and gross appeal to cliches. It is undoubtedly true, and the refined movie goers are partly entitled to be weary about the film. It is clear that the stories whith fate and predestination, retrieving past secrets and tearfull cometoghethers manipulate without honesty the public's reaction. Mihăileanu's story sometimes uses and abuses these strategies. He thus manages to concentrate the most varied audiences, to manipulate the viewers emotions and to make it as such that spontaneous laughter can fall over an emphatic cry. Of course the audience armed with a critical spirit and cinematic reference will be more vigilant about these strategies, they will find their motive and moderate the effects. Yet, with all this or because of all this it will be left immersed in the other virtues, which the film beyond its leakage, has a full possession off.
Anyone who entered the theater where they projected short films and animations, was struck by the number of spectators present. Certainly their curiosity was rewarded with a fascinating series of short films.
Mr. Dinu Tanase said yesterday at the premiere that "Memory in Stone" could be truly understood only by those who are part of the movie idustry or that have directly participated in the making of the film "The Stone Wedding". What is your opinion?
I do not know if there is something that is to be understood in this movie because it is only a remembrance of a famous movie, a director,a small town and some characters. "The Stone Wedding" is the only Romanian movie purchased by the special video / multimedia section of the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art in New York. I think and I hope this film will awaken the curiosity of the young generation to see Mircea Veroiu's and Dan Pita's movies, The Stone Wedding and The Spirit of Gold. I'd be very happy to see that happen.

One of the unique features of IPIFF is it's beach cinema. It is true, that this year it was not exactly on the beach but two steps away from the sea, at Hotel Flora's Terrace.
Q: What led you to choose a career in film?
A: As a child I was passionate about visual arts, I started by drawing, I continued with advertising illustrations and illustrations for books, and also did some writing. Basically I enterd this art from many perspectives and eventually film was a form that encompassed them all. Encompassed all my earlier passions into one

The most interesting moments of the festival ...
At the IPIFF Guest Point there is a longer line than there would be for warm bread and volunteers write Pass - cards to the public in a hurry, because there are so many people who are coming to Website Story. Stress is high and so is the natural impatience of the audience. Dan Chisu appears and calls for a program. People are astonished, it is clear they are not accustomed to go to movies whose directors and actors are at the beginning of the screening, as if they came out of the screen. Sometimes they seem downright unnatural and raise up justified questions like: are they people just like us? When the movie is good, the boundary between fiction and reality, between the actor and character becomes very thin. This is the benefit people like them have: the mirage of the superhuman.
How Dan Chisu proposed, Web Site Story is a film produced in a pure team spirit, a movie in which the subjective contribution of each member involved has left its mark on the end result, naturall, rough by will, gross.
The minimalistic documentary "Memory in Stone" by Iosef Demian was released Friday from 16.00 at Tomis Mall Cityplex. The Festival's President Dinu Tanase, explained the subject of the film to the ones present. It is a cinematic essay in wich the spirit and the image of Rosia Montana can be found.
Gala projection. Kino Caravan
Friday at 18:30 the gala projection for the production "Kino Carvana" took place in front of a small but entusiast public.
Dinu Tanase, the festival's producer, said that many directors, including himself, would have wanted to screen Ion Grosan's novel since the 80s. It is a film "desired by a generation and made by another " he said.
La această a cincea ediție a IPIFF ne aflăm din nou alături de domnul professor Gheorge Bălășoiu, prezent pentru a patra oară în juriul acestui festival.
Titus Munteanu,a transilvanian director, has made an exceptional movie in a typical Romanian setting, that will be able to bring at least a smile on everyone's face. The subtle jokes, the contrast between the worlds of the characters, the situation, are all part of one of the best black comedies from the past recent years in Romania.
Adriana Papp is the director at Citiplex Cinema and a big fan of the new wave of Romanian filmmakers. She loves her workplace (and how could she not love it, when it is a cinema). But more than anything she loves movies and IPIFF, fortunately, deals exactly with that.

"In what ways does Romanian capitalism resemble a game of Lego?" This question seems to be the background on wich the new documentary of Alexander Solomon, "Kapitalism - our secret recipe" is taking place on.. What does the movie promise us? A characterization of the current economic system in Romania, with the transformations it bears, from the Revolution to the present, times, in the hands of characters like Dan Voiculescu, Patriciu or Becali.
IPIFF continues with an official premiere. Serban Marinescu's feature film, Auntie, was released at the Tomis Mall Cityplex.Dinu Tanase the Festival's president, opened the gala with a speech about the producers competition. The film is a collaboration between two great personalities of Romanian cinema, Mircea Daneliuc, as writer and Serban Marinescu as director.
Q: How was the "Music Theatre" born ?
CT: The first concert was just after the premiere of "Hamlet" in Timisoara, directed by Victor Ioan Frunza, for which I wrote music and having a lot of music outside the show we thought we should also play it. Music Theatre is ussually forgotten once the show ends,it ceases to exists. And I'm very sorry, because every artist loves his work and has the desire to express himself and to keep what he has created. In this sense I thought we could play it in concerts. And even if they no longer sing in the show, the music remains in concert. After that we thought that we could develop it into a project that could be promoted better and then we thought to name it - "Music Theatre". And then I had many concerts in the country and even in Budapest!
Q: You were a producer for "Auntie" a film submitted to the festival this year, . What can you say about working with Serban Marinescu?
A: I'm working with Serban Marinescu for 25 years, from back when he made his first short film: I was a sound engineer in Buftea then . As a producer, we worked toghether on two other films, "Tycoon" and "Villains." Being old friends, we integrated into production fairly fast.
First of all Felicia is a tree times debut. Ozana Oancea ( Felicia) makes her debut as a film actress,Razvan Radulesu as a director and Melissa Raaf as a script writer and director. With a Mise-en-scène created in great detail and a wonderfull script,First of all Felicia deserves its place in place in the top of Romanian movies made this year. Although Felicia… is his debut film, Razvan Radulescu is not a recent revelation on the Romanian fim scene. Cowriter for a great number of Cristi Puiu’s and Razvan Munteanu’films ,Razvan Radulescu is an acknowledged value of the Romanian cinema and his debut as a director only straighttness his status.
Q: After the first day of the festival, which movies have attracted your attention more?
A: Today the German film school with two centers. Of German animation, five movies, five ways totally different from one another, excellent plastic, graphics, jokes, some good movies to watch and nice to learn from .
